We all know that Johannesburg is not known for its outdoor activities and lush landscapes, so when you stumble upon a local park, rich with vegetation and loved by families and their fury friends, it really feels like you’ve stepped into the ‘Secret Garden’. Ironically, this little suburban secret garden is known as Birdhaven and it is home to one of best on-the-go bagel spots in town – “GetBird”
Birdhaven has created the perfect little ecosystem of morning activity, family bonding and delicious food. GetBird is the perfect addition to the ecosystem and the best way to wake-up the tastebuds.
Every weekend the streets of Birdhaven come alive as family and friends enjoy a walk in the park or a game of paddle, followed by a deliciously loaded bagel. All the classic bagel fillings are catered for, including some exotic extras, and if you don’t feel like a bagel after a strenuous morning run then don’t worry, GetBird also offers refreshing smoothies and granola bowls. Despite being on-the-go, families and friends enjoy sitting outside on the grass under the umbrellas eating their bagels and catching up on the weeks past and weeks to come.
GetBird fosters a community built on food and relationships. You will never be served without a smile and friendly conversation, and you will always leave with your cup replenished for the week ahead. I have loved spending my Sunday mornings in the park either for a walk or run and then heading to GetBird for a “Morning Glory” bagel (my absolute morning go-to). It brightens up my day and has been a great opportunity to spend quality time with my boyfriend with our feet nestled in the grass as we enjoy each other’s company whilst sipping our coffee and munching a bagel.
As a corporate working girlie, I have not been able to venture to GetBird during lunch for a bagel, but I can confirm that they are not just a morning spot - your bagel cravings are not limited to breakfast and their menu caters for all cravings at any time of day.
